Perfect Items to Pack
for Your Wedding Day

One of every photographer’s favorite ways to start a wedding day is by capturing the wedding detail shots. These small but meaningful items reflect the couple’s personality and style—and make your final gallery shine.

As your big day approaches, you’ll have plenty on your plate, so it’s helpful to gather these items in advance and store them in one container, ready for your photographer. Here’s our go-to checklist of what to pack.

ITEMS ALL BRIDES SHOULD CONSIDER FOR DETAIL PHOTOS

We recommend packing everything that applies, plus any extra sentimental touches you love. Here's the bride's essential list:

  • Dress and veil

  • Invitation suite (2 full sets if possible)

  • Shoes

  • Jewelry

  • Perfume

  • Something old, new, borrowed, and blue

  • Something from your partner

  • All rings – engagement ring plus both wedding bands. If you have them all, your photographer can capture the full set, then pass them to whoever’s holding them for the ceremony.

  • Bouquet and/or loose florals – ask your florist to include a few extra blooms or greenery for styling. Be sure they arrive before the scheduled detail photos.

  • Vow book or printed vows

  • Extra ribbon, charms, heirlooms, or meaningful items

  • Guest welcome bags or favors

  • Any gifts or notes from your partner

PRO TIP: Except for the dress, veil, and flowers, most of these can fit into a single “wedding detail box.” This makes it easier to stay organized and ensures nothing is forgotten. Your photo team will also be able to start right on time—no scavenger hunt needed!

ITEMS ALL GROOMS SHOULD CONSIDER FOR DETAIL PHOTOS

Grooms often already have most of these items, but placing them together in one spot makes a huge difference for the second shooter capturing your prep.

Here’s what to pack:

  • Suit or tux

  • Tie or bowtie

  • Cufflinks

  • Watch

  • Cologne

  • Shoes and socks

  • Handkerchief

  • Belt or suspenders

  • Invitation suite (2 full sets if possible)

  • Boutonniere

  • Vow book or written vows

  • Any ribbons, accents, heirlooms, or meaningful items

  • Guest welcome bags or favors

  • Gifts or notes from your partner

As with the bride, we recommend starting a “detail box” early in the planning process. By the time your wedding arrives, you'll be glad everything is in one place—and your photographer will thank you too!
